BiFan to Return for 20th Edition with New Bucheon Industry Gathering

The Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BiFan) will be back for its 20th edition next month, and with it, the Network of Asian Fantastic Films (NAFF), Asia’s first exclusive genre project market, is also set to return for its 9th edition. Taking place for the first time this year will be BiFan’s Industry Gathering (BIG), a new initiative which was launched at an event during the Cannes Film Market this year and will encompass the activities of NAFF.

BiFan will kick off on July 21st and run until the 31st, while BIG will get underway for the first time on the 22nd and NAFF on the 24th, with both coming to a conclusion during a closing and awards ceremony on the 28th.

NAFF’s It Project selections for 2016 were announced. Whittled down from 238 submissions are 16 projects hailing from 11 countries, including four from Korea. These projects will have the chance to take part in one on one meetings with potential investors and producers from all around the world, which will include representatives from Ivanhoe Pictures, Huayi Brothers, Blumhouse Productions, Edko Films, Fortissimo and ICM Partners as well as leading Korean companies CJ, Showbox, Lotte and N.E.W.

This year, NAFF will also shine a spotlight on genre films from Malaysia, inviting five projects in cooperation with the National Film Development Corporation of Malaysia (FINAS). Previously highlighted countries include China, the Philippines and Thailand. Along with the participants of the 2nd edition of the Nordic Genre Invasion, the It Projects and Malaysian projects will all vie for the opportunity to win various cash and development prizes.
