Exorcism Thriller to Screen in 9 Theaters

JANG Jae-hyun’s smash hit debut The Priests has confirmed a nine-theater release in the United States, courtesy of CJ Entertainment America. The film will open in Los Angeles and Dallas this Thursday (November 26th) before expanding to Atlanta, Chicago, Fullerton, Honolulu, New Jersey, San Francisco and Seattle on December 4th.

Featuring KIM Yun-seok as a priest trying to conduct an exorcism on a young girl who has been invaded by an evil spirit, and GANG Dong-won as his rebellious younger assistant, The Priests has proved to be unexpectedly popular during its local release. Topping the charts in its first two weeks and still going strong in its third, the film has so far accrued 4.45 million admissions (USD 30.16 million).

KIM is a veteran actor who has led recent blockbusters such as The Chaser (2008) and The Thieves (2012) while GANG is a popular younger star who has headlined films such as Woochi (2009) and Secret Reunion (2010). Both actors featured in under-performing films last year, Haemoo and My Brilliant Life, respectively, thus the success of The Priests has reconfirmed their box office clout.

For his feature-length debut, director JANG Jae-hyun expanded his award-winning short 12th Assistant Deacon. The Priests was produced by ZIP CINEMA with Opus Pictures handling international sales. CJ Entertainment America has experienced success releasing Korean blockbusters in North America in the last few years, such as Roaring Currents (USD 2.59 million), Ode to My Father (USD 2.3 million) and Veteran (USD 1.2 million).
