China Film Group and Alibaba Are Known to Co-invest and Distribute the Film

Director LEE Hwan-kyung, who made 2013's mega hit movie Miracle in Cell No.7, will direct a Chinese film.

At the press event held in Beijing last week, director LEE, China-focused content production house Hexagon Media, and China's Pegasus Media Group announced their co-production agreement on LEE's first Chinese-language film Amazing Father and Daughter (Korean title).

The film is known to be a father-daughter drama, which is considered as LEE's expertise. The film will be co-invested and distributed by China's state-owned China Film Group and the country's e-commerce giant Alibaba. Pegasus Media, which has previously distributed a few Korean titles to Mainland China, will handle the Chinese part of the production.

LEE is known to have got around to scenario development in Beijing with a handful of major screenwriters in China, aiming to start production at the end of the year and release the film in August next year. The project currently has total production budget of KRW 16 billion (USD 13.6 million). Among the Korean directors with the 10 million admissions record, LEE is the first one to make a Chinese film.

LEE made his 2013 hit Miracle in Cell No.7 and made $76.63 million from 12.81 million admissions.

Pegasus Media is a private sector entertainment group with 23 years' history. It distributed the 2014 Korean hit film Roaring Currents to China.
