Top Korean Cinematographer Gets London Showcase

KCCUK Invites CHUNG Chung-hoon

Top Korean cinematographer CHUNG Chung-hoon is visiting the UK capital this week, after being invited by the Korean Cultural Center UK (KCCUK), which is staging a six-title retrospective of his work.

Following 2012’s Year of 12 Directors and last year’s Year of 4 Actors, the KCCUK is shining the spotlight on other filmmaking domains with a Year of Film Professionals in 2014. The first quarter of the year featured the works of screenwriter turned director PARK Hoon-jung and the cultural institute has been screening films shot by director of photography CHUNG Chung-hoon in recent weeks.

Noted for his topnotch lensing on some of Korea’s most famous features, CHUNG’s films in the showcase include the PARK Chan-wook films Sympathy for Lady Vengeance (2005), I’m a Cyborg, But That’s OK (2006), Thirst (2009) and Stoker, as well as YIM Pil-sung’s Antarctic Journal (2005) and LEE Joon-ik’s Blades of Blood (2010).

CHUNG drew acclaim from Hollywood due to his work on PARK’s English-language debut Stoker last year and took part in a Q&A in London following a screening of the film on Thursday, May 29th.

The second half of the year will feature showcases and Q&As with film music professional CHO Yeong-wook and production designer RYU Sung-hee.
