An elite doctor Taehun (Kim Sangkyung) finds out that his six-year-old son has an unknown lung disease. While he’s suffering from his son's sudden illness, even his wife (Seo Younghee) suddenly dies. Taehun learns that his wife, who had been healthy, suddenly died of lung disease and begins to find out the reason as a doctor. He starts to dig into a huge secret of the case, investigating the cases of the people who died of similar symptoms with a prosecutor Youngju (Lee Sunbin), the younger sister of his deceased wife. 

Director Cho Yongsun's TOXIC is a film adaptation of So Jaewon's novel Humidifier Disinfectants and What Not to Say. The novel is based on the true case of the ‘humidifier disinfectant disaster’ that occurred in Korea 10 years ago. The incident was caused by the humidifier disinfectants, which sold about 10 million bottles from 1995 to 2011, leading to fatal lung disease. It is the worst chemical disaster in Korean history with more than 1 million victims.

Kim Sangkyung stars in the film, who has made a strong impression in movies based on critical true stories in Korean society, such as Memories of Murder and May 18. Through the role of Doctor Taehun, he delivers an intense message to the audience. Lee Sunbin, who has been active in Korean movies and dramas lately, will present a new image as a prosecutor digging into the case of her sister's death. Yun Gyeongho, a scene-stealer in Korean films, appears as a villain representing a giant corporation, responsible for the twist of the drama. TOXIC is successful at the box office hit, delivering a powerful message to the audience as it is based on a true case that has not been solved yet.
