Deep in Northern Thailand, a documentary film crew follows Nim (Sawanee Utooma), a middle-aged shaman who has carried on the tradition of being an intermediary between the spirit world and the living world from her grandmother. One day He notices that Mink (Narilya Gulmongkolpech), her niece, is beginning to display strange symptoms, and she believes that this is a sign that she will be the next medium. 

Directors Banjong Pisanthanakun (Shutter) and Na Hongjin (The Wailing, 2016), among cinema’s biggest names in Thailand and Korea, respectively, have joined forces for the sensation of the season. Drawn from an idea hatched by Na and produced by the director, with Pisanthanakun at the helm, The Medium is a horror co-produced by major Korean studio Showbox and GDH 559, the top film company in Thailand. 

The film has already proven its box office bonafides in Korea, where it unseated Marvel’s Black Widow on opening day and welcomed over half a million viewers in five days, and it has also scored with critics and film festival juries alike, having earned the Best of Bucheon Award from this month’s 25th edition of the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BiFan). Viewers around the world will soon get a chance to see the film, as sales agent Finecut reported closing deals for it in Cambodia, France, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Macau, Singapore, Taiwan and Vietnam, as well as German-Speaking Europe, while a deal is currently being negotiated for the rest of Europe.
