Business has been slowly getting back to normal in Korea, but after a succession of high-profile thrillers and action films, one thing has been notably lacking from the charts - comedy. On August 12, that finally changes with the release of the summer’s first major comedy, the plane-set OK! Madam with star UHM Jeong-hwa, not seen on the big screen since 2015’s Wonderful Nightmare.
UHM stars as Mi-young, a woman running a snack store in a traditional market, whose computer repairman husband wins a trip to Hawaii for both of them. The couple excitedly board the plane to their dream destination, but little do they know that a secret agent is also concealed among the passengers, and what’s worse, some terrorists are after him and they will stop at nothing to catch their man - including taking the plane hostage.
OK! Madam comes from director LEE Cheol-ha, who has helmed such diverse fare as the romantic drama Love Me Not (2006) and more recently the hit thriller INSANE in 2016. Producing the film was Sanai Pictures, the company known for macho fare such as the gangland film New World (2013), which included the breakout role of PARK Sung-woong, who stars here as Mi-young’s husband.
