Five years after securing a Midnight Screenings selection at the Cannes Film Festival with his debut film Office, director HONG Won-chan is back with his sophomore film DELIVER US FROM EVIL. A high-octane action-drama shot on location in Thailand, Japan and Korea, the film reunites New World (2013) stars HWANG Jung-min and LEE Jung-jae.

In-nam (HWANG Jung-min) is a Korean hitman living in Japan who completes what he has decided will be his final job. But soon after, he learns that the daughter of a woman from his past (CHOI Hee-seo), who now lives in Thailand, has been kidnapped. He heads to Southeast Asia to find the child, after a brief stop in Incheon, where he is helped by the bar worker Yoo-yi (PARK Jung-min). However, he has not reached Thailand alone, as on his trail is the vicious gangster Ray (LEE Jung-jae), whose brother was recently assassinated by In-nam.

Beyond teaming up the acting titans HWANG and LEE, HONG’s film has also drawn interest as a new team-up between director of photography HONG Kyeong-pyo and composer Mowg, who worked together on LEE Chang-dong’s BURNING (2018). With its noir narrative and extensive location photography, many are looking forward to the film’s stylistic credentials.
