The Chuseok holiday season is upon us, which means that the local film industry is launching several major new tiles to try and lure large family crowds to the country’s multiplexes. Among this year’s three offerings is the new comedy-drama CHEER UP, MR. LEE, a family-friendly vehicle for star CHA Seung-won.
Chul-soo (CHA Seung-won) is a man who suffers from an intellectual disability, yet takes great care of himself physically. One day he meets the very sick Saet-byul (UM Chae-young), a young girl staying in hospital, who he discovers is his daughter. Not long after, Saet-byul decides to go on a journey to meet her friend for her birthday. Chul-soo joins his daughter and the two get to know each other, while their family try to track them down.
CHEER UP, MR. LEE marks the return of Director LEE Gae-byok following the smash success of his second film LUCK-KEY, which welcomed almost seven million viewers in late 2016. Known for his earlier comedies Kick The Moon (2001) and Ghost House (2004) among many others, CHA Seung-won was recently seen in the hit thriller Believer (2018). Wonderful Nightmare (2015) child actress UM Chae-young plays the daughter while CHA’s co-star PARK Hae-joon plays Chul-soo’s brother.
