Mi-young (RA Mi-ran) was once seen as a legendary detective on the force but after becoming a mother and with the passage of time, she now finds herself with a desk job. Enthusiastic rookie Ji-hye (LEE Sung-kyoung) is assigned to her civil complaints team and before long the odd couple find themselves caught up in a case that quickly escalates, dragging the pair through comedy-filled action set pieces.
The young jack-of-all-trades JUNG Da-won, whose filmography features various credits as a director, actor and producer, is jumping up to the commercial realm with his second directorial outing Miss & Mrs. Cops, following 2017’s Garak Market Revolution, at the tender age of 33. Featuring veteran character actress RA Mi-ran (Ode to My Father, 2014) and TV star LEE Sung-kyoung (LOVE+SLING, 2018), the film has been drawing attention since it was announced for being a rare women-fronted action title. With gender roles beginning to shift in the industry and through on-screen representations, Miss & Mrs. Cops, which mines the ‘girl crush’ concept that has recently been popularized in Korea, will appear in theaters this spring. With more female-focused works across an array of genres currently in the works, RA and LEE’s on-screen crime-fighting team is coming at the start of what many hope to be a new wave of strong women protagonists in local films.
