Soohyun (Shin Haesun), who has recently moved into a new house, buys a second-hand washing machine through a resale app but finds out it doesn’t work. Annoyed by the seller’s scamming behavior, she leaves a comment calling him a con man and reports him to the police. Little does she know that the seller is actually a psychopathic serial killer who uses the online second-hand market to lure his victims. Her negative comment is enough to render his hunt for a new victim all but impossible, so he decides that she should pay the price. She starts receiving obscene phone calls, countless unwanted food deliveries, and strange men come knocking on her door, looking for a good time. A trip to the seller’s address proves deadly serious when the police and Soohyun find a man’s dead body.

A producer-turned-director, Park Heekon made his directorial debut in 2009 with Insadong Scandal and dabbled in the period drama genre a few years ago starting with FENGSHUI (2017). Lead actress Shin Haesun has recently accumulated a bevy of top roles, most notably in the family drama My Golden Life (2017-2018) and the drama film Innocence (2020).

Jaeho (Hwang Jungmin), an expert diplomat, is dispatched by the Korean government to Afghanistan to supervise the negotiations with a Taliban militia that is holding hostage a group of Korean tourists. With the collaboration of the Afghan government, he is allowed to use any means necessary to save everyone. As the dialogue comes to a dead-end and Jaeho is running out of options, an intelligence agent specialized in the geopolitics of the region, Daesik (Hyun Bin), is sent to assist him, much to his frustration. The two men do not see eye to eye, but the assassination of one of the hostages reminds them that they cannot afford to waste time on petty rivalry. Whether they like it or not, they will have to learn how to work together if they hope to save the remaining hostages.

It is inspired by the true events. This drama comes from Little Forest (2018) director Yim Soonrye, the most prominent woman filmmaker of her generation, notably responsible for Waikiki Brothers (2001) and The Whistleblower (2014), the latter of which was also inspired by real-life events that shook Korea.

In the 1990s, 19-year-old Kook-hui (Song Joongki) moves to Bogota with his family, wishing for a better life, only to end up living from hand to mouth. Beginning at the bottom of the ladder, he goes through hell and high water to find his way to the top, until he ends up dominating the black market in Colombia’s capital city.

Almost entirely shot on location in Colombia, the main filming having started in January 2020 only for it to be interrupted two months later. Director Kim Seongje, formerly producer who worked on Director Ryoo Seungwan’s debut feature Die Bad (2000) and its follow-up No Blood No Tears (2002), wrote the script for the period thriller Blood Rain (2005) before making his directing debut in 2013 to critical success with Minority Opinion, winner of the Blue Dragon Award for Best Screenplay, with Kim being elected Best New Director by the Directors Guild of Korea. Playing Kookhui is Song Joongki, the star of The Battleship Island (2017) and Space Sweepers (2020), who is also known as one of the greatest stars in Asia after his lead performance in the drama series Descendants of the Sun (2016).

Ui-kang is a retired hit man. While his wife goes on a trip with her friend, she asks him a special favor to take care of her friend’s daughter. He doesn’t want to be bothered by the teenage girl but Yoon-ji gets stuck with juvenile delinquents and Ui-kang unavoidably uses a little bit of violence to protect her. However strangely, the juvenile delinquents are found dead and things start to get serious. Even worse, Yoon-ji is kidnapped by a teenager trafficking unit and Ui-kang is suspected of murder. He cannot fail his wife, he must get Yoon-ji back.

Based on Bang Jinho’s novel The Child Who Deserves to Die, The Killer is the latest from The Swordsman (2020) by director Choi Jaehun. First presented at the Udine Far East Film Festival earlier this year, with the festival director Sabrina Baracetti praising its eye-catching cinematography and action scenes, the film stars Jang Hyuk, a comedy actor from the 2000s who managed to make a name for himself in the action thriller genre with titles like the movie The Client (2011) and the series Iris (2013).

Yuna is a famous YouTube influencer but always looks down on others. She is invited to a cosmetic brand launching party but things don’t go the way she had wanted. Tired and extremely stressed, she takes couple of shots and falls asleep after calling a designated driver. When Yuna opens her eyes, she realizes she’s trapped in the trunk of her car. The kidnapper asks her for ransom, not just cash but to broadcast a ‘kidnapping live-stream’ and beg for money from the viewers. But everyone thinks she’s playing out a self-fabricated scenario... 

The YouTuber is played by Park Juhyun, a young actress who rose to stardom with the Netflix Original Series Extracurricular in 2020 and is set to appear in the upcoming film Silence (2022) as well as another Netflix show, the film Seoul Vibe (2022). Kim Doyoon, who could be seen in Peninsula (2020), plays the wicked kidnapper.

After losing her laundry store to a fire incident, single mom Dukhee (Ra Miran) receives a call from a bank offering a generous upfront loan. She accepts it right away, but soon after, she finds out that she has been a victim of a voice phishing scheme. Devastated, Dukhee turns to the police for help, only to be let down when they let her know that there is no hope of retrieving the money. Just when she falls into despair, Jaemin (Gong Myoung), the phisher who tricked her, calls on her phone once again and reveals that he was captured by a criminal organization that keeps him locked up somewhere in China to coerce him to make these voice phishing calls. Dukhee makes up her mind to investigate this case for herself and takes a plane to China with her friends.

Citizen of a Kind marks director Park Youngju’s second feature film, following Second Life, which was not only invited to the New Currents section of the Busan International Film Festival but also made its way to the competition at the Göteborg Film Festival. Her short 1 Kilogram was screened at the Film Festival de Cannes in the Cinéfondation section. Citizen of a Kind brings together Ra Miran from Miss and Mrs. Cops (2019) and Honest Candidate (2020) and Gong Myoung, best known for the box office hit Extreme Job (2019).

The most glamorous neighborhood in Seoul, Apgujeong thrives with new possibilities. Daeguk (Don Lee), who was born in Apgujeong and knows it like the back of his hand, is eager to start his own groundbreaking plastic surgery business. Then he encounters Jiwoo (Jung Kyungho), the most talented surgeon in the area, who lost his medical license by an unfortunate concourse of circumstances. Following great hits such as The Roundup (2022) and the Marvel blockbuster The Eternals (2021), Don Lee decided to remind the audiences that he is still able to thrive on screen even outside of the action genre. Men of Plastic marks his second collaboration with director Im Jinsun, after Ordinary People (2017). Playing against him is Jung Kyungho, who previously appeared in the Korean TV series When the Devil Calls Your Name (2019) and Hospital Playlist (2020).

Changsu, an ordinary man, lays his hands by chance on a special perfume with astonishing properties that may well change his fortune. This one-of-a-kind perfume proves to make anyone who uses it irresistibly attractive to women. Ara is a woman who doesn't believe in love. She has known Changsu by sight for a while, as the two commute to work every day on the same bus. But today, she finds herself oddly attracted by Changsu, and before she knows it, the two are dating. However, mysterious individuals are taking interest in that perfume and would like him to let them study it to determine its true nature, and that’s the beginning of troubles for Changsu.

Director Lim Sungyong has been around for a while, serving as a first assistant director on the likes of Campus S Couple (2011) and more recently Oh! My God Returns (2017) and Search Out (2019). For the lead role in his second feature film, he chose Seor In-a, a young actress who honed her skills in television with notable roles in the series Love Is Beautiful Life Is Wonderful (2019-2020), Mr. Queen (2020-2021) and Business Proposal (2022), and she already made her film debut in Emergency Declaration (2022).

Having been betrayed in her latest relationship, Jisu believes that people’s garbage reveals their true colors. One day, she comes across garbage that’s been neatly sorted and discarded, which immediately piques her interest. The person who did such a good job is none other than her next-door neighbor, Woojae. She grows curious about him and goes as far as collecting clues found in his trash to amass the information to get closer to him. As they get to know each other, Woojae’s warm-hearted and friendly temperament allows her to open up little by little. Then a chance meeting with his ex-girlfriend, Sera, hurts Jisu’s feelings. Unable to trust Woojae again, Jisu treats him with cold indifference. Woojae becomes troubled by Jisu’s sudden change of attitude. One night, he sees Jisu enter the apartment building with a trash bag in her hand and follows her. They have a fight, and the bag bursts open, exposing Jisu’s secret. After that day, Jisu’s apartment seems to remain empty. 

Shim Hyejung has been making short films for around a decade. Her feature debut A Bedsore (2019) was invited to several film festivals around the world, including the International Moscow Film Festival and the Vesoul International Film Festival of Asian Cinema, where it won the Jury Prize.
